About Morse Code
Morse Code is an early digital communication method developed in the 1830s. It represents text characters as standardized sequences of two different signal durations: "dots" (dits) and "dashes" (dahs). For over a century, it was the global standard for long-distance telecommunication.
Precise Timing Rules
- 1. Dot (.): The basic unit of time.
- 2. Dash (-): Equal to 3 dots.
- 3. Intra-character space: Gap between dots and dashes within a character is 1 dot.
- 4. Inter-character space: Gap between characters is 3 dots.
- 5. Inter-word space: Gap between words is 7 dots.
Modern Usage & SOS
While modern technology has largely replaced telegraphy, Morse code remains popular among amateur radio enthusiasts and is still used in aviation and emergency signaling. The most famous signal is , recognized globally for its distinct rhythm.
